TANNER FLETCHER | Spring / Summer 2023 NYFW Presentation

Tanner Fletcher is pleased to unveil the latest collection for Spring / Summer2023,titled “Spring Fling, ”which debuted on Saturday, September 10th at the brand’s sophomore appearance during New York Fashion Week. Drawing inspiration from the nostalgia of a retro school dance, the latest offering celebrates carefree fun with a refined twist, once again seamlessly merging the worlds of decades past with Tanner Fletcher’s uniquely modern take on genderless fashion.

Based in Brooklyn, New York, Tanner Fletcher is a genderless fashion and lifestyle brand by co-founders Tanner Richie and Fletcher Kasell, who are partners in business and in life. Committed to merging the worlds of fashion with interior design, the duo’s latest outing takes a cue from dreamy “spring flings” of the 1950’s, 60’s and 70’s, with a presentation that seamlessly integrated the duo’s expertise in crafting spaces as well as garments. With sets designed by the co-founders where models mingled and danced the night away, Tanner Fletcher’s “springfling” brought the retro concept alive-but with a uniquely modern, Tanner Fletcher twist.

The designers sought to create an inclusive and diverse space for their NYFW presentation this season, not beholden to traditional mores set for gender, age, sexuality, and race that often plague U.S. high school landscapes. Inclusive casting was crucial to attaining this, including real life couples modeling in the show to help realize the authentic vision. Numerous vignettes were created to bring the theme of “Spring Fling” to life including a school bathroom, a band, dance floor, prom photo set up, tailor shop, bedroom, and a beauty salon. Ultimately, the energy of the presentation and collection emitted a familiar and sentimental aura, comfortable for the viewer and wearer, with an inclusive approach that is distinctly Tanner Fletcher.

Expanding on their signature retro-meets-modern aesthetic, the Spring / Summer 2023 offering from Tanner Fletcher features a larger range of ready-to-wear than previously seen, including looks for all occasions ranging from more casual basics to formal attire such as evening wear and suiting. As always, every piece in the collection is designed and cut for any gender identity, giving the customer the freedom to find the perfect fit, no matter their gender expression. The collection consists of 30 looks totaling over 100garmentsas well as accessories, including a leather handbag in 3colorways, brass necklaces, and deadstock 1960’s lockets. Dusty blues and pinks mix with the brand’s classic ivories, creams and browns that run throughout the collection. A standout print is a Wood Paneling texture used atop many pieces including suiting, dresses, and a leather handbag. The print was inspired by the wood paneling from the 1970’s that mostly disappeared in recent years, but still holds nostalgic memories for the designers. This air of nostalgia is teased out in the collection with the brand’s use of customizable letterman jackets, school uniforms, as well as cheer and sports team outfit silhouettes that resonate with everyone who went to high school in the U.S.. To bring a lively sheen to eveningwear, there are also multiple applications of sequins used in the collection, including a sequin wood paneling suit, floral sequin dresses, shorts, top, skirt, and tie. Two Ball Gowns anchor the show, each featuring a hoop skirt and petticoat underneath, which can be removed for everyday use.

  • The designers continue to take inspiration from interiors throughout their ready-to-wear offering, and this season that manifests through the utilization of flowering window-box pattern lifted from a vintage 50’s bedsheet found by the team at a garage sale. Fabric inspired by sheets from the 70’s makes an appearance in pink and blue gingham looks, and a full suit made from chenille that would typically be used as a bedspread in 60’s interior decorating rounds off the vintage bedding-inspired ensemble. Celebrating a collision of worlds in various forms, Tanner Fletcher intentionally and thoughtfully bridges the gap between clothing and interiors, modern and vintage, masculine and feminine. The brand also continues their home edit for Spring/ Summer ‘23, ‘Bric-a-Brac’, meshing perfectly with their clothing to complete the Tanner Fletcher world. The offering will include signature candles, pillows, and throws that are made in-house, as well as vintage wood paneling pieces, glassware, blankets, and more-all of which mirrors the aesthetic of the season for Tanner Fletcher. Last season’s standout trinket box-sporting the phrase “Expensive Shit”-will be continued for this season.
  • Off runway, the young couple, founders and co-creative directors, Tanner Richie and Fletcher Kasell, share an innate aptitude for style and passion for craftsmanship. The duo decided to pool their collective talent and knowledge in 2020 to launch what is now Tanner Fletcher. Their approach to design taps into the same methodology one would use to arrange and decorate a home. Each season is approached as another room, house, or apartment to embellish as they continue to build and adorn their world for all to explore.
