Tang Chi Couture Explores Dark Romance for SS27

Tang Chi Couture stepped onto the New York Fashion Week runway with In Between…, its Spring/Summer 2027 collection presented at the Georgia Room on September 11. The 25-look presentation marked the New York-based label’s official NYFW runway debut, following its formal runway debut during London Fashion Week in September 2025.

Founded by Taiwan-born, New York-based designer Maggie Fan, Tang Chi Couture has built its identity around emotionally driven design, sculptural silhouettes, and intricate craftsmanship. Presenting her first solo runway show in New York was especially meaningful for Fan, who developed much of her design language and experience in the city.

For Spring/Summer 2027, Fan turns her attention to the uncertain space between opposing forces. Following the brand’s previous exploration of time, In Between… poses a new question: What comes next?

The collection explores the fragile distance between life and death and the constant tension between darkness and light. Love and mortality become intertwined throughout the story, examining what it means to love until death, sacrifice oneself for something deeply cherished, or become irresistibly drawn toward something dangerous.

The image of a moth drawn to a flame becomes an apt metaphor for the collection’s fascination with desire and destruction. Romance is beautiful but potentially dangerous, creating a world Tang Chi Couture describes through ideas of “quiet violence” and “deadly romance.”

Rather than treating beauty and darkness as opposites, Fan allows them to coexist. Love, mortality, vulnerability, and danger become part of the same visual conversation, giving In Between… an emotional intensity that complements Tang Chi Couture’s sculptural design language.

The NYFW presentation also marked an expansion for the emerging label, unveiling a wider release of Tang Chi Couture’s distinctive footwear offering as the brand continues to develop beyond its core collections.

With In Between…, Maggie Fan uses Tang Chi Couture’s New York runway debut to explore the beauty found within uncertainty. The result is a haunting meditation on love and mortality—and the dangerous attraction that can sometimes exist between the two.
