Susanne Bartsch Debuts F/W 2023 Collection

Susanne Bartsch Debuts F/W 2023 Collection

Susanne Bartsch, a patron of NYC nightlife, debuted the Fall / Winter 2023 collection of her eponymous brand Bartschland at NYFW. Titled Look III, it was a flamboyant and unapologetically queer spectacle of the aesthetic Bartsch adopted after fleeing conservative Switzerland. Runway 7 Fashion hosted the presentation, a platform that gives brands a chance to showcase their designs. Among the featured designers were Abraham Levy, Ren Haixi, and Beilharz Official. The former thanked Bartsch on Instagram saying, “A very special thanks to my dear friend [Bartsch] for this incredible opportunity…”

Meanwhile, the looks were immediately available on the website www.sbthecollection.com as Bartsch makes her way into e-commerce and online retail. The collection comprises 50 looks and aptly described as wearable art. Bartsch was inspired by the invitation cards of the legendary parties she has hosted in her career. Made for men and women, the garments have the ability to transform from proper day wear to night wear. Overall, the retail price for each item spans $25 to $450.

Bartschland Gets Funky

The clothing ranged from hoodies and sweatpants to corset tops and mini dresses. Loud prints inspired by vintage invitation cards from Bartsch herself gave the collection the realism needed to avoid tackiness. The prints often reused or mashed together, were undoubtedly the highlight. Among them were figures in pop art or invitation texts on a solid black. Day wear or casual wear were mostly simple or flared leggings either in a plain color or leveled up using her prints. But Bartsch’s use of her prints on corsets and dresses were the best part of the show. They signaled a bold femininity that was sensual yet also traditional in the silhouette.

First, the corsets were made in a standard outline with a square-cut top and looked somewhat cropped. The prints ranged from ones with yellow tape to a bright red with Bartsch in black and white.

Secondly, the dresses came in mini and maxi lengths with long sleeves and some opting for a turtleneck. Skin-tight dresses with pictures of Bartsch in different eras of her life collaged together was the standout.

Consequently, the ethos of Bartschland is Susanne Bartsch herself. Her persona and the nostalgia of her life in London or New York City, mingling with everyone from Vivienne Westwood to John Galliano is what peaks her audience’s interest. So, this collection is a modern twist on the purest moments of her life, perfect for the party-goer of today.
