Here at The Garnette Report, we had the pleasure of speaking to Tiffany Brown right before her NYFW A/W 2024 Fashion show about her latest collection.

Zoey: What was the main inspiration behind your newest collection?

Tiffany Brown: So one of the most important things to me was that I felt like a recovering people pleaser. So, reaching my 10-year anniversary, after reaching that milestone, I wanted to take more control over my career and what I want to do, understanding you can’t please everyone, can’t use every person they want you to use. You gotta use the people who work for you, and I feel like I hit that point. So one of the movies that kinda hit that point was the 2010 Black Swan movie with Natalie Portman. I think everyone loves that movie because she shows that struggle with female perfection and how do you get okay with that bit of imperfection and the different facets of your personality. So I said you know what, I am going to do gold and blend it with a bit of Champagne. Because gold by itself is overpowering and typically, especially in black culture, as black women, we pair gold with black or white primary color, so to keep up with the Monochromatic theme and not for it to look country, I need to blend it down and work it out, so that’s what I did. And because of that, I learned so much in that journey, I decided that music played in this fashion will be Swan Lake with a blend of 21 Savage underneath it, so a little bit of flavor to Swan Lake.

Zoey: Were there any particular challenges you faced during the design process of this collection?

Tiffany Brown: It looking country because when the pieces came back from the factory, the pieces looked very matchy-matchy. It looked very strange to me, so I need to figure out a way to look classy and not for it to look weird in certain places because matchy-matchy is not Monochromatic. Monochromatic is a spectrum of a color, so this is the spectrum of gold. I wanted to highlight the brighter pieces, when you are looking at the collection, it is telling you a story. It starts very rainbow bright in the beginning and then it slowly concludes to a bit of tan color and then it goes to a surreal tangy orange.

Zoey: Are there any standout pieces in this collection that you love? Or key elements within the collection that you’re particularly excited about?

Tiffany Brown: So the standout pieces for me are the first five looks in the collection and the last five. They are absolutely show stoppers. The final piece has tangy orange color which looks good on all skin tones.
