Tadashi Shoji At NYFW

Tadashi Shoji At NYFW

Where East meets West, and where the modern day meets the Mongolian Empire.

The rich history of the Mongolian empire is what inspired Tadashi Shojis F/W 2020 Collection, with a goal of finding balance between the rich ornamentation and functionality. One of the first ways this was seen was through the gorgeous strong shouldered and fur lined coats to emulate nomadic outerwear. Another key element were the patterns and embroideries which were influenced by the colorful Mongolian tapestries and rugs.

What I really appreciated from this collection were the dualities within the clothes such as the puffed shoulders with cinched waits, as well as the artistic and mythically inspired patterns paired and patch-worked with faux leopard fur. I think this provided great contrast and a more modern take. I also loved the little touches and finishing details such as the glove pairings and the bright cobalt eyeshadow.

I think Tadashi definitely succeeded in transporting us. There were so many gorgeous pieces, and the flow of the show was exciting.
