Sergio Hudson, the celebrated designer renowned for his signature blend of sophistication and contemporary style, left a resounding mark on New York Fashion Week with his latest masterpiece, Collection 12. This season’s show brought out the brightest stars in Hollywood: celebrities such as Tamron Hall, Halima Aden, Akoi and Kimora Simmons, June Ambrose, Lala Anthony, Jordyn Woods, Coco Jones, Danielle Woods, Gizelle Bryant, Susan Kelechi Watson, and Yvonne Orji. This captivating display of fashion artistry delved into a dark color palette, intricate embroidered mesh, and a sleek silhouette that left the audience in awe.
Hudson’s keen eye for color brought a sense of drama to the runway. He masterfully explored a rich spectrum of shades, often teetering on the edge of black, yet not quite. Amidst this dark canvas, vivid pops of color emerged like bursts of creativity. Turquoise, orange, and yellow injected life into the collection, while deeper hues such as chocolate brown, army green, and merlot lent their elegance to an array of garments.
The collection effortlessly transitioned between styles, from impeccably tailored suiting to flowy chiffon dresses and demure pussy bow blouses. The genesis of Collection 12 was rooted in the iconic images of Tina Turner at airports in the 1970s. Hudson drew inspiration from Turner’s impeccably clean and sharply tailored ensembles. Speaking about the muse behind the collection, Hudson said, “Her look was clean and sharp, and it made me want to offer a similar aesthetic to my clients. Her look said, ‘this is the full Tina Turner effect, this is how I’m presenting myself to the world no matter where I’m going.’”
With Collection 12, Hudson continues to push the boundaries of fashion, blending timeless elegance with contemporary flair. His ability to marry dark and vibrant shades, intricate mesh work, and a clean silhouette is a testament to his creative prowess. As NYFW attendees marveled at his latest offering, it was clear that Hudson had once again left an indelible mark on the world of fashion, ensuring his place as a trailblazer in the industry.
