Reminiscing Youth: Wataru Tominaga FW 2021-22

Wataru Tominaga reimagines the innocent playfulness of childhood in his FW 2021-2022 collection, as part of Paris Fashion Week. With extravagant prints and flamboyant colors, Tominaga takes us back to an animated youth.

Tominaga is known for his experimental print designs, and they are often made with hand drawn images and manipulated printed textiles through hand pleating. This is seen in vibrant floral designed pant and jacket sets, along with other skirt sets consisting of forest and ski-town imagery. His use of multi-colored knitwear is also incorporated as part of his extravagant expression.

Wataru Tominaga is a unisex brand, with genderless silhouettes constructed as part of each brand item. This ambiguous gender-neutral expression in this collection is demonstrated through the use of outerwear, oversized knit sweaters, and straight leg pants.

Tominaga founded his brand in 2019 and launched his first commercial collection in spring 2020. This was after a series of successes which include (but are not limited to) winning The Grand Jury Première Vision Prize at the 31st International Festival of Fashion and Photography in Hyères, as well as being named in the Forbes 30 Under 30 Asia 2018: The Arts list.
