Leonardo 5th Avenue goes unfiltered for SS24

Sunday September ninth, father and daughter design duo Leonardo Cordero Suria and Ana Sofia Cordero returned to New York Fashion Week at the Mezzanine in Spring Studios to showcase their designs for their brand, Leonardo 5th Avenue. The brand is known for their well structured suits and flair. This show was no exception. The theme of the show was “UNFILTERED” as a return to authenticity within stylistic expression. Some of the colors chosen for the suits reminded this millennial author of the #UNFILTERED era of sunsets on Instagram with tonal burnt orange and deep red. These colors contrasted quite nicely against the darker tones of the palette, black and silver.

The single-breasted silhouettes were accented quite nicely by appliqués, patch pockets, and fringe. This allowed the designs to stand out from generic suits, but remain dressy enough for formal events. In consideration of the spring and summer seasons coming next year, the fabrics were lightweight enough to breathe in the warmer months, but strong enough to maintain their structure. Which could come in handy for next year’s wedding season!

In presenting this collection, the duo stated that their mission was to define being unfiltered as “[living] an authentic and sincere life while accepting your limitations and flaws with a sense of optimism and hope for [the] future, and this is the feeling we are trying to convey through our collection UNFILTERED SS2024.” With unique silhouettes like those modeled by first time NYFW model Lu Xianren, the designers achieved this goal quite well.

The choice to cast Xianren was one made very on point. For those unfamiliar with his work, Xianren is a Chinese model who blew up online for DIY-ing runways and clothing with found objects. Some of which include carport blankets–the goal was to not only express himself, but remain kind to the environment. I’m excited to see what he and Leonardo 5th Avenue get up to next!
