Laurence Basse Fall/Winter 24 Collection: NYFW

Laurence Basse makes a triumphant return to New York Fashion Week with her latest Fall/Winter 2024 collection, titled “Burn This City.” A standout star from Season 15 of the Emmy Award-winning show Project Runway, Basse has earned recognition as a breakout talent in the fashion world. Despite her humble beginnings, she has worked diligently to ascend to the status of a global fashion icon.

The unveiling of her new collection took place at The Paramount Building in Times Square on February 13. Describing the collection in one word – “WARRIOR,” Basse captures her emotions and reflects on the current state of the world, exploring the intersection between beauty and pain. The inspiration behind “Burn This City” revolves around the themes of war and peace. Basse showcases her distinctive leatherwork, incorporating materials like denim, silk, and wool to create a breathtaking collection that defies traditional norms. While maintaining a common tone of traditional black, she makes a bold statement by infusing vibrant colors such as pink, blue, green, and sheer metallic elements into some pieces.

The collection features striking looks, with highlights including a baby pink leather jumpsuit and a two-piece leather gown accompanied by a stunning headpiece. Each ensemble is adorned with custom-designed chain link jewelry, a result of Basse’s collaboration with Mr. O Atelier. The colorful and bold runway display concludes with recycled fur pieces designed by Basse and crafted by Tas Kletsidis. The entire NYFW show is brought to life by Mykel C Smith of Mykel C Smith Creative, a trusted friend and seasoned professional with over 20 years of experience in the creative industry as an event producer, celebrity stylist, casting director, event planner, and creative director.

Hailing from Normandie, France, Laurence Basse’s journey began with a modest upbringing. Early on, she designed clothing for local friends and family. Basse enjoyed a successful modeling career before being discovered by Jean-Paul Gaultier in the late 90s. Her modeling appearances in French and American fashion publications, including UNITED COLORS OF BENETTON, ELLE Magazine, and Cosmopolitan, served a singular purpose – to finance her dream of attending fashion school in Paris. Since, her career in the fashion industry has been extensive and extremely successful.

Anticipated by audiences and New York Fashion Week attendees, Laurence Basse Paris’s Fall/Winter 2024 collection promises to impress. Pushing the boundaries of modern fashion, it encapsulates the brand’s ethos of detail and structure, evident in the meticulous attention to detail and boldness showcased throughout the new collection.
