John Galliano Leaves Maison Margiela
The British fashion designer recently left his creative director role at Maison Margiela. John Galliano worked as the creative director at the house for a decade. Specifically, his unique vision and technical skills made him suitable for the role ten years ago. In addition, he graduated from Central Saint Martins. His expertise and knowledge of the fashion world cement his name as one of the greatest designers.
Also, it is a mystery what venture Galliano will head towards. Fashion lovers online are calling for him to be the creative director of Dior again. Additionally, he held that position for more than a decade as well. Wherever John Galliano goes, the fashion world will surely follow him. One of his greatest feats was the recent Maison Margiela Spring 2024 Couture Fashion Show. It reminded the world what fashion should feel like: another world entirely.
Maison Margiela Spring 2024 Couture Fashion Show
Couture shows are a different breed from the normal fashion shows consumers see most seasons. Specifically, the designs are more elaborate and can have more storytelling elements to them. This is one of the reasons why this show was so successful. Galliano constructed this whole collection around a story. It shocked and amazed because of how vulnerable and distinctive it was.
Silhouettes played a role in the show’s success. The models’ hips appeared expanded because of the pieces they wore. Galliano designed most of the garments to accentuate features, and even over exaggerate them at times. This broke the shape of the stereotypical slender model the fashion world was used to.
The show opened with model Leon Dame and ended with actress Gwendoline Christie. Each model walked with their own distinct attitude. For instance, some crept towards the onlookers with their arms tight to their chests, while others walked as if there was no gravity. The combination of characters, scenery, and exquisite designs marked this show in fashion history. Though onlookers didn’t know it at the time, this was the last couture show Galliano would complete at Maison Margiela. Ultimately, his mark will be left on the house’s name forever.
