GOLD by Yves Saint Laurent

Yves Saint Laurent Museum

Yves Saint Laurent Museum invites us to a glittering exhibition in Paris. The exhibition, “GOLD by Yves Saint Laurent” reveals his links with art. The show celebrates the 60th anniversary of his first collection and the 5th anniversary of the museum as well.

Passion for gold

The exhibition devoted to gold takes place from October 14 to May 14, 2023. It unveils his passion for gold by examining the role that gold has played throughout the collections. Gold, the color highlights not only his very first collection but also his entire career. It ranges from some forty haute couture to ready-to-wear dresses. Moreover, it displays selected jewelry and golden objects essential to the Yves Saint Laurent silhouette.

Indeed, his golden touch comes in every couture collection: The very first buttons adorning his pea coats. Dresses in gold sequins. And other materials include brocade, lace, lamé, sequins, leather, and embroidery. Whether through the fabric, jewelry, or perfume, gold sparkles, he features a dazzling radiance of gold.

The color of the sun

Meanwhile, his words tell us about his love for the gold.

“I love gold, it’s a magical color; when reflecting a woman, it’s the color of the sun.”

Besides, the exhibition celebrates the empowerment of women. From the jeweled dress designed for his autumn-winter 1966 collection and photographed by David Bailey, to the sequined dresses worn by Zizi Jeanmaire and Sylvie Vartan, he beautifully portrayed women with a dazzling piece of ornaments as well as exquisite materials.
