Emerging Celebrity Designer: Lacey Dalimonte

Fashion designer Lacey Dalimonte is emerging in the industry as the next ‘camp’ designer. Specifically, Dalimonte has designed pieces like a dress made from severed doll heads, to frilly sequined slips.

Rise To Success

Dalimonte found a sense of creativity after her move from Grand Rapids, Michigan to Los Angeles, California. A self-taught seamstress, she attended fashion school in 2019 while finding success on Depop (@shoplacey is still active as of 2023). She began documenting her creative process on Tik Tok in 2021 while working as an independent designer. Around this time is also when Dalimonte began designing for celebrities, often under very tight deadlines.

Custom Work

Some of Dalimonte’s custom celebrity designs include the bedazzled candy bra Nicki Minaj wore in her pregnancy announcement shoot, Doja Cat’s iridescent g-string from album cover Planet Her, Billie Eilish’s final tour show outfit, as well as looks for Katy Perry’s residency shows.

For Eilish, the designer sourced childhood photos from the singer and layered them onto a blood-red two-piece set in Eilish’s grungey style. Shortly after, Dalimonte created another set for Eilish’s tour, which she hand-printed and designed.

Controversial Design

Another renowned look by Dalimonte is Demi Lovato’s recent album cover outfit. The singer posed lying down on a cross wrapped in leather belts. Dalimonte reveals the construction process on her Tik Tok. The album was banned in the UK after the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) deemed its content as offensive, referencing Lovato’s “bondage-style outfit.” Though, Dalimonte says she is “honored” on her Tik Tok.

Jewelry

Many of her designs tap into darker aesthetics, simultaneously incorporating spikes and chains with an avant-garde twist. The designer currently has four items available on laceydalimonte.com — a black spiked “Punkture Choker,” two spiked chokers with chains attached in Black or Clear, and a Gold Tooth enamel pin. These pieces can be seen on artists like Madonna and rapper Rico Nasty.
