Houston brand Danny Nguyen Couture showed their womenswear F/W 2021 collection titled “Emperor’s Envy” at Midwest Fashion Week in Paris. It is a collaboration with fabric artist Johnathan Espinosa. The collection was presented online through a pre-recorded look book video. This Virtual Fashion Week took place on March 2, 2021.

The video is 5 minutes long and features models strutting around a greenhouse and a brick building. There are mainly shots following each model alone, but one group shot of all six models posing on stairs.

The F/W collection was inspired by the Byzantine Emperors. This influence can be seen with it’s regal, gold-trimmed gowns and diamond crowns. It was also inspired by knights, which is easily recognizable in the chains worn on the model’s shoulders and chests. Some models also wore long, lace capes reminiscent of knights.

The clothes are in jewel tones, including emerald green, sapphire blue, and ruby red. The other two models wear the most classic colors, black and white. The models wear different styles of formal attire. Some being more classic silhouettes, including full length gowns with a matching cape. Some, however, are more modern, including a suit and a gown with a large slit up the leg. All models wear heels.

The makeup is also glamorous, and fitting for a ball.  Pink eyeshadow, red lips, black eyeliner, and fake lashes are seen on most models. There is nothing eccentric or out there about the makeup, which puts all the focus on the clothing. The models’ hair is mostly pulled back, also giving little to distract from the clothing items.

The description of the brand’s collection writes, “We fight through the battles with life’s momentum and find glory. Through significant change, we discover a warrior within ourselves.”

Danny Nguyen created Danny Nguyen Couture in Houston, and the brand is famous for its wedding dresses.
