Christopher John Rogers X J.Crew
The brand J.Crew and fashion designer Christopher John Rogers recently collaborated. The collection is full of life and vibrant colors. It combined Roger’s creative genius and J.Crew’s staple pieces. Certainly, the collaboration stands out from normal seasonal collections. It is a celebration of color, fabric, and shape.
J. Crew is best known for its simple yet modern pieces. From the brand’s denim to its loafers, a slight elegance is always present. For instance, the brand uses high quality materials like cashmere, lamé, and satin. In this collaboration, Christopher John Rogers added an extra layer of passion and vivacity to the brand. In 2020, the designer won the CFDA Award for American Emerging Designer of the Year. Truly, Rogers is already a rising star in the fashion industry, and this collection further proves his creativity and talents.
The Collaboration
Cashmere is a staple fabric for J.Crew. The brand has a collection of cashmere cardigans, lined gloves, beanies, and more. Likewise, Christopher John Rogers took this fabric and used it to his advantage. The Brushed Cashmere V-neck Sweater and Pencil Skirt in Multistripe showed the fabric in a new light. These two pieces shine in the light with a 1970s glow. Above all, the smooth lines on each matching piece exude the same type of vibrance.
Additionally, the designer used duchesse satin in a number of the items. This type of satin is often present in formal wear. In this collection, Rogers created multiple designs using this type of satin. For example, there are the Structured Button-up Shirt and the Bustier Top. Both of these pieces are available in a Pink Red and Dot Mixy color.
Also, the collection showed leather-esque materials in a new light. The Topcoat in Red Vinyl has a bright radiance. As with most outerwear pieces, the topcoat reaches down to the knees. In addition, its style and gloss are noticeable. The light shines on this fabric wherever it goes. Clearly, this piece shows what great craftsmanship J.Crew and Rogers are capable of.
The Meaning
This collection takes modern shapes and adds a new twist to them. Bustier tops appeared made with satin materials. Additionally, gold lamé appeared in the form of the Wide-Leg Pant. Bustier tops, like corsets, are still popular. Customers of these pieces enjoy the shape they create. Similarly, wide-leg pants are everywhere in current fashion trends. Why? Simply because of their fit and shape. This collaboration produced garments that can move with the customer.
