Bottega Veneta’s Leather Sweats

Bottega Veneta Resort Collection 2024

Bottega Veneta’s Leather Sweats

A day after Bottega Veneta’s creative director Matthieu Blazy got nominated for the British Fashion Council’s Designer of the Year award, the brand’s resort collection dropped. In a smart, possibly unintentional move to solidify receiving the award, Blazy has outdone himself once again with positive feedback regarding this collection on social media. Once again, he has made clothing that usually isn’t made of leather into leather. Last time, it was denim. Now, it’s athleisure.

Bottega Veneta, known for its extraordinary leather craftsmanship skills, once again goes viral for the same reason it did last year. Deceiving fashion critics, Blazy managed to make pairs of jeans look like denim, only using leather. The statement piece brought lots of buzz around Bottega and Blazy, with some calling him a genius. The Italian fashion house continues to be a trailblazer and make beautiful clothing in amazing ways.

This time, the piece that stuck out to critics was the sweatpants and its matching jacket. However, further investigation revealed that both items consist of leather. It was already difficult to grasp how Blazy made leather look like denim, but the sweats take it up a notch.

The brand seems to be going through a transitional phase with Blazy. Once known as the brand with iconic woven handbags, Bottega wants to become the brand that makes leather look like anything. The sweats join a list including jeans, tank tops, and flannels of clothing items that Matthieu transformed into leather.

While the sweats became the subject of the collection, the rest were also just as good. Inspired by his own childhood wardrobe, Blazy even recreated a crab print dress his sister used to wear and reimagined it into a knit sweater. Along with vibrant colors and large sewn labels usually seen on children’s clothing, one thing is clear; Blazy brought out his inner child for this pre-spring collection by reigniting nostalgia.
