Arturo Obegero just unveiled its Fall/Winter 2021 collection during Paris Fashion Week.

The collection, titled “Puro Teatro,” is just that. Dramatic designs reminiscent of something you’d see in an Opera house. The collection features lush velvets in classic blues and reds.

About Arturo Obegero

After growing up in the Northern Spanish coastal town of Tapia de Casaregio, Arturo Obegero’s heritage is given a reference through his designs. This is showcased through his signature style of high-waisted flared trousers, silk shirts and cropped bolero jackets.

Sustainability is a priority for Arturo Obegero, the brand does not take part in mass-production and uses leftover fabrics from luxury fashion houses. The brand is also focusing on eschewing traditional retail models, adding a made-to-measure system to the e-commerce, where only a small selection of his designs are available.

Arturo Obegero sees straight the constraints of gender in fashion, preferring to transmit poise and posture by “adapting the construction of a look to enhance different shapes to suit the different bodies,” among them Solange Knowles, Christine and the Queens and Belgian singer Tamino, as well as dancers Germain Louvet, étoile of the Paris Opera Ballet and New York City Ballet soloist Harrison Ball. Obegero is also working on the costumes for an upcoming production for a theatre in Zurich.

In his opinion, sex will always sell, but he prefers “something less primal, where you show feelings rather than skin. Sexy is the freedom of showing who you are. The people I look up to are performers, like Antonio Gades, an amazing flamenco dancer who brought flamenco into a modern contemporary vision. He had a presence when he walked, he was a walking poem and that’s how I want people to feel: empowered, showing your true colors, your sensitivity and your vulnerability.” [via WWD]
