‘AREA’ is a design studio run by fashion designer duo Beckett Fogg and Piotrek Panszczyk.  They graduating from the Parsons MFA program in 2013. They were also this year’s CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund finalists along with nine other competitors. “The CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund is an annual competition established in 2003 to cultivate the next generation of emerging of American design talent.” (CFDA) It is truly an honor for new up and coming designers to receive this award from The Council of Fashion Designers of America, Inc. They really caught my eye because they specialized in textile manipulation.

Textile manipulation is a really intricate and unique process.  It allows your work to stand out with never before seen textiles and manipulations. Textile manipulation can be a really great way to be sustainable too.  By weaving and manipulating recycled fabrics it can create up-cycled fashion.  The reason why ‘AREA’ caught by eye is because as individual designers they both are very experienced.  As a duo they are very special and unique together. Before Parsons, Piotrek Panszczyk had worked under Chloe Emmanuel Ungaro. Beckett Fogg had worked under Francisco Costa for Calvin Klein in their textile development department.  At Parsons they found a similar aesthetic between them and decided to form AREA. The first year of AREA they sold exclusively to Opening Ceremony worldwide.

It has been a big year for the duo Beckett Fogg and Piotrek Panszczyk. Usually after the CFDA and Vogue features a designer, it means things are about to blow up. I am so happy for Beckett Fogg and Piotrek Panszczyk. As Parsons MFA graduates I know they can make it. Parsons MFA graduates are always so talented and stand out in the industry.
