It’s 2018 and still not all brands create clothing in a full range of sizes. How can this be so? Luckily, Madewell joins other brands such as Forever 21, ASOS, and Savage X Fenty, in debuting more inclusive clothing options. Madewell extends sizes to 3X.
Madewell started by extending the sizes on styles already available on their website. See a cute wrap dress and want it in 3X, now you can have it. The brand is also offering denim in sizes 23 to 37. The dresses, knits, sweaters, tops, and jackets sizes go from XXS to 3X.
Madewell Striped Pullover Sweater ($75)
“We’ve been working closely with third party fit experts to create our extended sizes according to industry standards in the perfect fit across all styles. This is part of our larger initiative to reinvent the standard of fit to reflect the real, diverse spectrum of the American Customer.” The Madewell press release reads.
All of the size options are available right now in Madewell’s “new arrivals” section of the website. The brand will also offer the new denim sizes in-stores to try on.
Madewell Surplus Jacket ($118)
Madewell doesn’t offer all their clothing in the extended sizes but 40% of the items are available in the extended sizing. Madewell does plan to extend the sizes in more of their styles in the future.
The brand has made other efforts to make their sizing more inclusive. They added new styles like Curvy Fit to their website and extended sizing in 33 to 35. The new extended sizing is just part of a growing extension of inclusivity.
What’s refreshing about Madewell’s new sizing is that it includes their regular style of clothes as opposed to creating a separate collection of Plus Size clothing. This is true inclusivity allowing shoppers to not feel ashamed that a style they like might not come in their size and having to shop from a limited collection of clothing in their size.
