How Croatian Fashion Designer Sylvio Kovacic Achieved The “American Dream”

While stories of the “American Dream” contain some nuances and variations, there are certain recurring characteristics. These include an individual coming from a foreign land, struggling in America, working hard, and eventually, ascending to success. These characteristics are very much apparent in the story of fashion designer Sylvio Kovacic.

Kovacic spent most of his young adult life in Frankfurt, Germany before coming to the United States. While in Florida, Kovacic was inspired to attend fashion school. With a passion for fashion and talents as a seamster and tailor, he realized that he had the potential to become a prominent fashion designer in New York. However, he began his journey with “Maestro Couture.” This term referred to Kovacic using his tailor skills to take other fashion pieces and make it his own. This process was arduous and took a significant amount of time. As he explained, he would work “20 hour days, 7 days a week” within this medium. Fortunately, his hard work would be rewarded as he dressed and styled clothes for prominent names in the fashion and entertainment industries. These names included NBA star Kevin Garnett, singer Kelly Clarkson, music artist HER, and many more. Eventually, Kovacic would create his prominent fashion brand, “SYLVIO,” based in New York.
