Tory Lanez Bags 10 Year Sentence

Two years after the 2020 shooting incident with superstar Megan Thee Stallion, the final verdicts are in as Canadian rapper Tory Lanez, whose legal name is Daystar Peterson, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for the shooting of fellow musician.

The incident, which occurred in 2020, took place after a party hosted by reality star Kylie Jenner. It left Megan Thee Stallion’s feet injured, leading to a surgical procedure to remove bullet fragments.

This incident not only divided the music community but also brought attention to the issue of violence against women, according to LA District Attorney George Gascón. It left the music world in shock and has been the center of attention ever since.

The sentencing, which took place after multiple delays, saw Lanez’s lawyers vowing to appeal the decision and work towards securing his release on bail during the appeals process. The 31-year-old rapper was credited with around 10 months of time served since his conviction in December.

Judge David Herriford presided over the trial, which turned into a marathon two-day session due to extensive arguments from both legal teams and statements from seven witnesses, including Lanez’s father and the mother of his young son.

Megan Thee Stallion, a Grammy winner, also shared a victim impact statement that detailed the profound emotional toll the incident had on her, expressing that she “will never be the same.”

Prosecutors had sought a 13-year prison sentence for Lanez, emphasizing the severity of his actions. The charges he was convicted of included assault with a semi-automatic firearm, possessing a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle, and discharging a firearm with gross negligence.

Tory Lanez, known for his musical success with seven US top 10 albums in the past seven years, now faces a significant period behind bars.

The rapper still maintains that he is innocent and has released a note to his fans through his official Instagram page on Thursday.
