All The 2024 Met Gala Details You Need to Know

The 2024 Met Gala is less than a month away and the excitement is in the air for this spectacular, annual event!

Each year, spectators and celebrities alike eagerly await all the crucial details, from the hosts to the theme, and more.

This year, the Met Gala is on Monday, May 6, at the Metropolitan Music of Art in New York City.

The guests will be dressing for the theme ‘Garden of Time’. What exactly does this mean? According to Elle Magazine, this theme was inspired by The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s annual Costume Institute Benefit, celebrating its new exhibition, “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion.” ‘Garden of Time’ and the institute’s exhibition encourage ethereal and whimsical aesthetics, differing from many of the previous Met Gala themes. We can expect to see plenty of beautiful florals on the red carpet with this year’s theme as, according to Harper’s Bazaar, Andrew Bolton, the curator in charge of the Costume Institute said, “It is very much an ode to nature and the emotional poetics of fashion.”

According to Vogue, the “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion” exhibit will showcase about 250 items drawn from some of the hidden gems of the Costume Institute’s permanent collection, which have otherwise been kept private from the public eye. Vogue also reported that the featured pieces span over 400 years of fashion history, from renowned brands such as Dior, Givenchy, and more.

Not only will the exhibit showcase historic garments, but technological components will also be involved. Those that are too fragile to be worn again will be displayed through video animation, light projection, and more, such as a Charles Frederick Worth ball gown from 1877, said Time Magazine.

As if the dress code and thematic excitement were not enough to entice you to watch the event, the dedicated hosts and chairpeople might do the trick. According to Forbes, The 2024 board is comprised of celebrities such as Zendaya, Jennifer Lopez, Bad Bunny, and Chris Hemsworth, all of whom are co-chairing alongside Anna Wintour, the editor-in-chief of Vogue and Met Gala trailblazer since 1955.

The purpose of the Met Gala has always been to fundraise for The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute, and this year is no exception. According to Harper’s Bazaar, the event has raised millions year after year for the Costume Institute through ticket sales. The tickets are paid for by the designers and brands, which cost approximately $35,000 each, and tables range from $200,000 to $300,000.
