A Recap Of The 2024 SAG Awards
All of your favorite celebrities stepped out in style at the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards on Saturday, Feb. 24!
The 2024 SAG Awards were held in Los Angeles, at the Shrine Auditorium and Expo Hall. From eloquent speeches, surprising cast reunions, and all the category winners, this year’s show was an incredible success.
After the nearly four-month SAG-AFTRA strike, everyone was eager to see how it would be addressed at the show. SAG President, Fran Drescher, eloquently spoke on the strike and its impact. “You survived the longest strike in our union’s history with courage and conviction. The journey was arduous, it came with great sacrifice and unrelenting stress,” she said. “This was a seminal moment in our union’s history that has set the trajectory for many generations to come, not afraid but brave, not weak but powered, not peons but partners.”
Another crowd favorite moment of the night was when Meryl Streep was joined on stage by her former The Devil Wears Prada co-stars, Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt. Together, the three looked stunning on stage and shared quips from the dialogue in the 2006 comedy, as they presented the award for Best Male Actor in a Comedy Series.
And who can forget about the excitement of hearing from all the category winners? A fan favorite in Hollywood this past year, Pedro Pascal, was announced the winner of Best Male Actor in a Drama Series, and his speech certainly had the audience entertained. The The Last Of Us star admitted a funny secret when he was brought to the microphone. “I’m a little drunk. I thought I could get drunk. I’m making a fool of myself but thank you so much for this!” said Pascal. The actor kept the humor going through to the end, finishing his speech by saying, “I’m going to have a panic attack and I’m going to leave.”
Barbara Streisand, a living legend in the entertainment industry, was honored last night, as she won the SAG Lifetime Achievement Award. Presented by Jennifer Aniston and Bradley Cooper, Streisand was honored to have won and brought audience members like Anne Hathaway to tears with her remarks. “I wanted to be in the movies even though I knew I didn’t look like the other women on screen. My mother said you better learn to type, but I didn’t listen, and somehow, some way – thank God, it all came true,” said Streisand.
Many other talented actors were recognized at the SAG Awards for their notable roles in films, and television series. Both Barbie and Oppenheimer earned four nominates each in the motion picture categories, and Oppenheimer stars Robert Downey Jr. and Cillian Murphy were both recognized for their individual contributions. Some of the winners include Lily Gladstone – Killers of the Flower Moon for Best Female Actor in a Leading Role, the Cast of Oppenheimer for Best Cast in a Motion Picture, the cast of Succession for Best Ensemble in a Drama Series, and more.
