A 2024 Oscars Recap
The 2024 Oscars were held Sunday, March 10 at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, hosted by late-night talk show personality, Jimmy Kimmel.
Big events and announcements took place both on and off the stage. Vanessa Hudgens revealed her pregnancy as she opened up the Oscars with the ABC pre-show. The actress walked the red carpet in style, wearing an all-black gown that perfectly showed off her baby bump.
Oppenheimer took the awards by storm as it came out on top in 13 categories, most notably winning Best Picture, Best Actor, and Best Director. Oppenheimer star Robert Downey Jr. won his very first Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor and thanked his wife for helping him get to where he is now. He said, “She found me a snarling rescue pet and you loved me back to life. That’s why I’m here. Thank you.”
Another Oppenheimer star, Cillian Murphy, made history at the Oscars, as he was the first Irish-born actor to win Best Actor. The actor was shocked but honored as he said, “I’m very overwhelmed, very humbled.”
There were incredible performances at the show from some of Hollywood’s finest. Everyone was looking forward to seeing “I’m Just Ken” from the Barbie soundtrack, and Ryan Gosling did not disappoint. Gosling had us laughing from the very beginning, and Margot Robbie too, as he began his performance by popping up from behind her in the crowd. The audience was on their feet during the performance and even joined in on the song. The stage was covered in pink, from Gosling’s hot pink suit to the pink piano, and the entire set, he brought the “Kenergy” to the Oscars.
Despite Gosling’s impressive performance, it was Billie Eilish and FINNEAS who took home the award for Best Song, for Barbie’s “What Was I Made For?”.
Not only were the musical performances outstanding, but the presenters also had some funny moments. John Cena came out naked to recreate the moment from years ago when a streaker ran across the stage. His interaction with Jimmy Kimmel had the audience laughing out loud.
Emma Stone also shared an “oops!” moment, as she revealed that part of her dress had split open when she came on stage to accept her award for Best Actress for her performance in Poor Things.
From wardrobe malfunctions to musical talents, stunning looks on the red carpet, and all the jokes and digs, the 2024 Oscars was one to remember!
