Tom Did It Features Devlin On New Freestyle
Tom Did It, the 21-year-old artist, producer, and sound engineer from Hertfordshire has released his latest single, ‘Did It’ (Freestyle) featuring Grime trailblazer Devlin. Dropped today, the track is a celebration of U.K. rap and grime, bringing together two generations of talent for a visceral collaboration that underscores Tom’s growing presence in the scene.
‘Did It’ (Freestyle) captures Tom’s journey from his home-built studio in Hertfordshire—affectionately known as The Barn—to collaborating with one of the genre’s pioneers (a foreshadowing nod of what’s to come for the young talent). The track’s hypnotic beat, gritty lyricism and Devlin’s sharp verses create an uncompromising and unfiltered energy that honours the roots of grime while showcasing the distinct essence of Tom’s sonics.
“I like to write songs that are gonna be universally appealing, but it’s always gonna be rooted in the culture as well. There’s always going to be moments in my music that you’ll be able to tell that this is from the UK, this is from London.”
Tom Did It
‘Did It’ (Freestyle) arrives as a significant moment, bridging the gap between the early grime movement and its modern-day evolution. Freestyle has long been a cornerstone of rap and grime, serving as a platform for artists to showcase their lyrical skill and spontaneity. In this track Tom Did It underscores the ability to flow effortlessly between complex wordplay and emotion, while paying homage to the genre’s roots of storytelling and improvisation. It’s a powerful moment to his command over the craft, capturing the essence of the culture in its unfiltered form. A pioneer of the genre, Devlin’s sharp and evocative lyricism amplifies the track’s impact, adding a layer of authenticity and cementing its place within the cultural lineage of U.K. rap.
To celebrate the release Tom performed the track during a show Devlin had on December 5th in London, offering fans a live rendition that goes also in line with an upcoming NTS radio performance. The single will also be dropping alongside a visualiser on Tom’s Vevo channel.
Tom’s path has been defined by his dedication to his craft and his independent ethos. Earlier in his career he passed on offers, opting to perfect his sound in The Barn, a space he and his father built from the ground up. That DIY approach has shaped Tom’s ability to blend influences from U.K. rap, indie pop, and rock, forging a style entirely his own.
With ‘Did It’ (Freestyle), Tom Did It is making his mark as a vital force in the U.K. landscape. This track, steeped in culture and creativity, is a product of his relentless work ethic, genre-blending talent as he emerges further as a powerful newcomer in British music. This freestyle featuring Devlin should show that Tom Did It is here to stay
