Pure/Honey – Beyonce
What is a runway without Beyonce’s “Renaissance” album? “Pure/Honey” embodies the elements of the LGBTQIA+ community’s ballroom scene. During the balls, performers vogue, wack, tut, and strut for fashion categories to win trophies for their houses. This song will transport you to one of the balls during your daily routine. Therefore, this funky groove with its brass beats will have your walk drip with pure honey! Check out the song here!
For a Fool – Storm Queen
Play some house music in your house! Stor Queen is an extension of Morgan Geist, a music producer that was active from 1994 in Detroit, Michigan. During the 1990’s and 2000’s, Geist has worked with musicians associated with Earth, Wind, and Fire and Charlie Wilson. Then, this single is part of his comeback to the music scene after an eight-year hiatus in 2021, “For A Fool”. Escapism – RAYE, 070 Shake
Have you ever experienced an escapism? “Escapism” is a popular single that singer RAYE and 070 Shake have released in 2023. The song is part of RAYE’s debut album, “My 21st Century Blues.” Then, inspired by Amy Winehouse, RAYE’s low register and emotional deliverance of the lyrics creates a story of someone going through unhealthy coping mechanisms after a breakup. Lastly, if you want a storyline for your runway, this is a great addition! Check out the song here!
Say Yes – TOKiMONSTA, VanJess
Want a classic rendition of “Say Yes”? “Say Yes” is originally sung by the duo called Floetry in 2002. In this single, VanJess is a Nigerian-American sister musical duo that started their journey in 2018. Then, for this song, they did a cover of Floetry’s song and added a house element with TOKiMONSTA’s flair. TOKiMONSTA is a music producer and famous DJ that specializes in electronica and instrumental hip-hop music. Lastly, the three of these musicians came together to create a modern twist of the 2002 classic. So, if a sensual piece can help you turn poses, check out this song!
Popular – The Weeknd, Playboi Carti, Madonna
You are popular, and you can be even more popular with this song! “Popular” is one of the leading singles from the HBO Max show, “The Idol”, created by the Weeknd, Sam Levinson, and Reza Fahim. Then, the Weeknd collaborates with Playboi Carti and pop legend Madonna to talk about a young celebrity who calls the paparazzi to gain attention to continue her deceptive image. Then, the song is supposed to reflect on Lily Rose Depp’s character in the show: a young celebrity with a false identity to the public. For instance, the company is most famous for their asymmetrical and avant-garde looks. Rina Sawayama created the song to celebrate confidence but it is a chill confidence. In addition, the song uses dramatic bass drops and a linear drumline to help you keep your strut. Listen to the song here!
Her – Megan Thee Stallion
Finally, for the final song of the playlist, “Her” is a ballroom-inspired track that follows a simple bassline and drum kit.
