The Rise of Wet Leg

The Rise of Wet Leg

British Indie Rock band, Wet Leg, has done more than just climb their way up the charts. They have secured themselves as music’s newest and eclectically wildest band to keep an eye on. Consisting of five best friends —Rhian Teasdale, Hester Chambers, Joshua Omead Mobaraki, Henry Holmes, and Ellis Durand— the Isle of Wight natives have found themselves entering a new era of exposure and music rise with their 2023 self-titled debut album garnering GRAMMY and BRITs attraction.

The last few years for the breakout group have brought nothing but new surprises. With their rise initiating from their 2020 label signing to Domino Records, to their upcoming European and Australian tour with Harry Styles, the British pop superstar that covered their current hit “Wet Dreams” for BBC Radio’s Live Lounge.

Originally meeting at the Platform One College of Music, the group began their successful journey together while at the End of the Road festival in South West England. It was soon thereafter that their spark became a flame with singles such as “Wet Dreams” and “Chaise Longue” attracting an audience that brought chart-topping streams.

Wet Leg’s breakthrough single “Chaise Longue” carries a bass heavy melody that propels its hurried lyricism and sexually charged metaphors into the listener’s perspective. Staying in the Official Charts’ top 100 for four weeks, the song went on to garner critic and public acclaim.

Moving on to later in their musical journey, so begins the cue for drums, the leg-bouncing beats, and the refrain that builds up like an electric pulse. “Wet Dreams,” just like many of their records, holds a sexual fantasy within its lyrics that went on to claim it’s place in top 100 for twelve weeks according to Official Charts. The song now holds as their highest charting single, with over 53 million plays on Spotify.

Much of their debut album follows this erotic yet psychotically encasputing theme that sets them apart from every other indie rock band. With two 2023 BRITs award wins and two first time GRAMMYs, Wet Leg has found itself with new musical buzz.
