Submerge Yourself In Noomi’s Beautiful Soundscapes On EP ‘Life Aqua’

Amanda Börjeson, aka Noomi, is a Swedish singer and songwriter. She grew up in a family of musicians, learning classical and folk violin and vocals from a young age. In her late teens, she finally explored pop music and discovered a love for UK underground artists like Massive Attack and Radiohead. These artists inspired her to start making her own music and expressing herself with unique melodies and lyrics.

In 2016, Noomi won Sweden’s largest radio music competition “Svensktoppen Nästa,” and that was when the ball started really rolling. She then went to study music and composition at Sarah Kelly Music School in Houston. She is currently signed with Universal Music Publishing, and she released her first EP Life Aqua in May of this year. The EP can be streamed on SPOTIFY.

Noomi’s early experience with classical and folk music shines through in the carefully curated instrumentals of Life Aqua‘s tracks. But her process seems to be more about flowing with creative energy. “I didn’t think too much about the complexity of it… The whole writing process [of ‘Free At Least’] felt very pure and free,” she said in an interview with Notion

Regarding how she chooses her instrumentals, Noomi explained, “I want every song to feel like a robot that you realize was human.”  She likes the contradictory combination of processed, distorted sounds and softer, more natural sounds. In “Better,” Noomi does this beautifully by distorting her gentle, bare background vocals until they sound like an angelic yet electronic part of the instrumental.

Life Aqua explores the beauty of love and the feelings that come with entering a serious romantic relationship. But it is also about Noomi’s own personal growth and feeling ready to so strongly give and receive love.
