Rolling Stones Continue US Tour Following Death of Charlie Watts

The Rolling Stones will be moving through with their plan to tour in September. They continue with this plan amid the pandemic and the recent death of drummer Charlie Watts.

The tour promoter Concerts West responded to inquiries yesterday regarding the tour’s status. In an announcement, Concerts West said, “The Rolling Stones’ tour dates are moving ahead as planned.”

The band’s “No Filter Tour” was initially scheduled for 2020. The tour includes 12 dates, with stadium shows that had been postponed due to the pandemic, in addition to shows in Las Vegas and Los Angeles.

The tour runs from Sept. 26 in St. Louis, Mo. to Nov. 20 in Austin, Texas.

This summer, Watts found a replacement for him on drums in Steve Jordan, an associate for the band. Watts had announced his decision to not participate in the upcoming tour due to a medical procedure.

Jordan commented on the role at the time: “It is an absolute honor and a privilege to be Charlie’s understudy.”

In early August, Watts commented on the decision to step out of the tour: “for once, my timing has been a little off,” he said. “I am working hard to get fully fit but I have today accepted on the advice of the experts that this will take a while.”

Watts died on Aug. 24, at 80, after a nearly 60-year run with the band. He joined in 1963 and remained a crucial member, alongside iconic musicians Keith Richards and Mick Jagger. He last performed with the band at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami in August of 2019.

Tickets for The Rolling Stones’ tour are available on Ticketmaster.
