Orbital Release New Album, “Optical Delusion”

English electronic music duo, Orbital, have released their newest critically acclaimed album, “Optical Delusion.”

Who is Orbital?

The duo consists of brothers Phil and Paul Hartnoll. Much of their work has been commercially successful, with one of their better known attributes being their live improvised shows. The brothers have been recording since 1989, with their first record “Chime” becoming a rave anthem. The song garnered public appeal and soon hit #17 on the UK charts.

The duo’s breakthrough into the industry came with the release of their second self-titled album. Orbital’s work reflects on many genres, emotions, and musical tactics. Many of their records carry samples from songs such as “You Give Love a Bad Name” by Bon Jovi.

Optical Delusion:

Electronic music can have its own difficulties in being more than just a vocally overpowered clash of instruments. However, Orbital serves the genre well with their newest debut. For instance, their newest album explores new sounds that filter in an “end-of-the-world” feeling. The album explores sci-fi sounds and a collaboration of voices. Additionally, there is an alluded excitement within the music that the duo plays around with.

The album includes a blend of fast beats and electronic mixing that carry an upbeat yet sinister tune. The opening track samples a slowed down version of the children’s nursery “Ring Around the Rosie.” It procures this eerie sound that reigns true for the rest of the album. However, this isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Many of their songs carry that futuristic, menacing essence and create an aura to the album that can best be described as Apocalyptic. Orbital’s song “Home” encapsulates that sci-fi quality. The song’s avant-garde melody, siren-like vocals, and escalating beats create an almost unearthly ambience; however, it fits perfectly with the rest of the album.

Orbital’s Upcoming Tour:

The duo are embarking on a 2023 UK tour beginning the end of March. According to Magnum PR, Orbital is expected to put on a surreal live show this coming Spring. The pair’s UK headline will begin in Glasgow and end at the Brighton Centre on April 8th.
