Mikahl Anthony Releases Debut Single
Mikahl Anthony premieres La Flare, his debut single and music video from his upcoming masterful full- length debut album MUSE via Belgium’s R&S Records. It follows the introductory soft release of the precursor donut (Space Blue/Deep Ain’t It).
If the name sounds familiar, the highly sought after multidisciplinary artist, hailing from the west side of St. Louis, Missouri, has collaborated with the likes of Chance The Rapper, Mick Jenkins, Joey Purp, Smino & more. He is also a co-founding member, Curator, and Art Director of Chicago’s THEMPEOPLE. Additionally Mikahl has collaborated with Via Rosa (of the soulful electro Duo Drama) on The Great Depression EP. As well as being featured on Lance SKiiwalker’s debut.A tapestry of rich instrumentation and textured sounds, sonically, La Flare unfolds reminiscent of an older vinyl recording, crackling with nostalgia. It combines vocal texture, soulful transparency, funk, and openness as it invites listeners on a unique auditory journey while concurrently weaving a visual narrative, aiming to captivate them with the feeling, and storyline. Accompanied by a beautiful, self-directed B&W visual, La Flare follows along the underlying themes heard in MUSE – a record with storytelling at its core. Interspersed with commentary from Mikahl and others who share their story while collaboratively analyzing their personal experiences, it speaks a candid and honest narrative, which reinforce the heartfelt lyrics within. This record La Flare highlights a difference between serendipity and coincidence, being that serendipitously meeting a romantic interest turns out to be a beautiful connection for both lovers. From the lyrics down to the dreamy melodic sounds, this record gorgeously encapsulates the initial feelings of these lovers meeting one another through serendipity, feeling as though God meticulously wrote the scenes and scenarios for the lovers to perfectly align with one another all the way to the first direct interaction.Appropriately titled MUSE, the project’s name is anchored around a dual meaning acronym (1. Ms. Using sensual energy & 2. Making use of seclusion every day), that creatively interprets the idea of self-therapy, an internal/interpersonal reflection of life experiences that serendipitously connect to Mikahl’s personal romantic relationships. Mikahl explains: ‘I wanted to use a unique style of songwriting, arrangement and filming with the intention of soundtracking my self-development/maturation process’.MUSE marks a new chapter in his multidisciplinary artistry. While he continues to cement his legacy, this project stands as an authentic, vulnerable, and candid synthesis of both auditory and visual elements- a musical documentation, presented in the evocative light of a film noir. With a mantra that delves into self reflection with storytelling, Mikahl’s ‘M.U.S.E’ introduces a pioneering genre, connecting individuals by fostering self-reflection.
