Midnight Generation Are “Almost My Own”
Midnight Generation (@midnightgeneration) presents “Almost My Own”, another unmistakable fusion of retro-disco, funk, and synth-pop that further expands the Mexican act’s growing catalogue of indie-electro bangers and one more reason why the Chihuahua-born group is emerging as one of the most talked-about acts touring internationally.
The song captures the bittersweet ache of a fleeting connection that hinted at love but never quite came to be: “You were almost my own, I still believe, I guess that’s how it had to go.” Driven by talkbox textures and lush synthesizers, the track crafts a retro-futuristic soundscape that mirrors its theme of longing for a version of someone who has already moved on.
“”Almost My Own is about that ‘almost something’ that could have been but never was, a love story that never came to be.” Singer and producer Fernando Mares shares, “It has a very distinctive sound: the talkbox and synthesizers perfectly complement the nostalgic yet futuristic feeling we wanted for the song.”
“Almost My Own” resurrects the signature talk-box groove that launched the group into viral status, back when a studio snippet of their break-out track “Don’t Wait Up” blew up prior to the track being finished.
The official music video highlights this contrast between idealization and reality, opening with the band performing mundane domestic chores like ironing, reading the newspaper on the lawn, watermelon slices on a picnic blanket, and hanging socks on a clothesline before transforming into a vibrant, open-air lakefront jam – watch here!
“Almost My Own” follows their recent single “Runaways,” built around disco futurism, a rubbery bass loop and shimmering synths, threading together the glossy pulse of French touch house with the melodic instincts of contemporary indie-pop/sleaze – watch here!
Following a landmark run performing nearly 90 shows across 15 countries for over 200,000 fans including a sold-out arena show at Mexico City‘s Pepsi Center, Midnight Generation are currently on an international run WORLD TOUR 2026, spanning North America, Europe, Mexico, and South America.
Across their live career, the group has made major festival stops at Governors Ball, Outside Lands, Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo, BottleRock, Electric Forest, Mad Cool, Cruïlla, and Warm Up Festival, alongside headline dates across Europe and Latin America, just to name a few.
Their electrifying live shows, marked by groovy beats and matching outfits, have earned praise from Rolling Stone who praised Midnight Generation for delivering “groovy beats in impeccable, matching outfits.”
A major highlight of this run arrived earlier this week as Midnight Generation kicked off their massive North American tour alongside Empire of the Sun and Polo & Pan, embarking at the iconic Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, CO. Taking the stage at one of the world’s most legendary outdoor venues, the band will continue to bring their infectious disco-funk spectacle to thousands of fans as they continue to conquer North America on this support run.
The band, comprising Fernando Mares, Luis Carlos “Bica” Valderrama, Carlos Amaya, Samuel Márquez, and Diego Bustillos—blends funk, disco, synth-pop, and electronic music into a signature retro-futuristic sound inspired by Daft Punk and Prince.
And for now, “Almost My Own” marks the next step in their evolution, solidifying their status as one of Latin America’s most exciting indie-electronic crossover acts.
