MEEK is “Terminally Verbal”
Rising popstar MEEK returns today with her new track, “Terminally Verbal,” out now via BMG. A direct, unflinching statement about the cost of shrinking yourself to make other people feel comfortable, “Terminally Verbal“ runs at under two minutes and doesn’t waste a word.
“I spent so much of my life trying to make myself quieter. Less opinionated. More digestible.” MEEK shares “I’ve always been a loud person and it made me feel so judged and exposed all the time, and honestly afraid to speak out. When I started to understand my neurodiversity on a deeper level and who I am as a person, it was so painful to think I had been minimising that beautiful part of myself to make certain people more comfortable. Terminally Verbal is an acknowledgment that no matter who deems you ‘acceptable’ or ‘palatable’, you are who you are, and your opinions, emotions, and beliefs are absolutely valid and deserve space.”
“Terminally Verbal” is MEEK’s fourth release, following “Fabulous,” “Beautiful Freeks” and ”Expensive Taste,” and pushes further into the territory that has defined her so far: pop that is candid, funny and unwilling to soften itself for anyone’s comfort. The official music video to accompany the track was shot and self-directed by MEEK herself, working with her friends and collaborators atHomoparody, in a fast five-hour shoot. Watch HERE.
MEEK was named one of Rolling Stone’s ‘25 Artists to Watch’ as part of its Future of Music list. Over the past year she has built a reputation as one of pop’s most distinctive live performers, with sets at Mighty Hoopla, Capital’s Summertime Ball and London Pride, and appearances on Saturday Night Live UK and The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. This summer, she also joined Kesha as special guest on her North American tour.
MEEK takes to the road this winter, with headline dates across the UK, Ireland and North America for three live dates in San Francisco, Los Angeles and New York.
“Terminally Verbal” was written and recorded at Planet Studios in Montreal by MEEK with Banx & Ranx (Yannick Rastogi and Zacharie Raymond) and is out everywhere now.
