Lollapalooza Day One: Immaculate Vibes

This past Sunday, August 6th, marked the end of the legendary Chicago music festival known as Lollapalooza for 2023. If you weren’t able to make this 4-day Rock & Roll haven this year, and couldn’t stream the live performances on Hulu, don’t stress! We are here to give you the full run-down of everything Lolla ‘23.

This year featured some of your favorite artists on its stages. Both up-and-coming rising stars, as well as A-list celebrities, were in attendance. The lineup for 2023 included headliners such as Kendrick Lamar, Billie Eilish, and Lana Del Rey whose sets amassed crowds packed shoulder to shoulder for what felt like miles.

Day One: An Overview

Despite this author being unable to attend Day One of Lollapalooza, which began on Thursday, August 3rd, I was able to get the inside scoop on some of the day’s performances. Both video coverage of the festival along with testimonies from festival-goers confirmed that the vibes were indeed immaculate.

Acts like Clinton Kane and LoveJoy gave the day a strong start, and kicked off an energetic vibe of anticipation for what was soon to come! Throughout the day acts from around the country and the world performed for thousands. This also included Chicago’s own rapper and songwriter Kidd Kenn who sat down with the Garnette Report to talk all things music, dolls, clothes, and more!

A Fantastic Finish, and a Goodbye

However, no one can dispute that once the clock hit between 7:00 to 7:30 pm, that is when the real party started for many. By this time Carly Rae Jepsen was already rocking the Bud Light stage and giving the fans all the throwback feels. And after her set attendees had their pick of headliners to choose from to finish out their first night.

From Karol G, Lollapalooza’s first-ever Latina headliner in history on the same Bud Light stage. To the one and only Diplo, on the Perry’s Stage. Another option for fans was K-pop sensation The Rose on the Bacardí Stage. This performance by the group was particularly special as it also celebrated the 6th anniversary of their Lollapalooza debut.

And finally gracing the T-Mobile stage was the incomparable Billie Eilish, who delivered her trademark high-energy performance and iconic vocals.

Billie also took the opportunity to honor the late Angus Cloud, the Euphoria actor who died at the age of 25 just three days prior. She dedicated her song “Never Felt So Alone”, which was featured on Euphoria, to Cloud.
