Interview With Artist Lauren Sanderson
TGR had an opportunity to interview artist Lauren Sanderson to talk about her journey, what’s next, and more. .Lauren Sanderson knows who she is, and she is busting down your door so you do too. From bedroom music uploads to self-booking a nationwide tour to accruing a devoted army of diehard fans online and over 100 million streams, Lauren Sanderson is the badass queer rockstar who is ready to let the world in on who the hell she really is.
TGR: When did you first learn that you had a passion for music?
Lauren: I first realized my passion for music when I popped in my mom’s Ciara Goodies CD into a CD player. The second I heard the beat and her singing and Missy Elliott rapping, my life was changed forever.
TGR: Can you walk us through your creative process when making music?
Lauren: My creative process is usually just trying to really capture a time, place and feeling in life. Like a physical time and place, not in the studio, but somewhere that listeners can hear and it takes them somewhere else. I like to come in the studio with a feeling in mind that I’d like to focus on that day and just see what flows out of me.
TGR: Where do you draw inspiration for your music?
Lauren: I draw inspiration from my real life, movie quotes and posters, throwback/classic music, being outside, living life.
TGR: How has your music style changed throughout the years?
Lauren: My music style has truly just changed with the evolution of my personality, which can sometimes feel all over the place. But the one constant is my lyrics and voice. Even though my album has a few different genre mash ups, I always want people to hear my music and know its me.
TGR: You are very open with your sexuality in your music, what influence do you think that has over your fanbase?
Lauren: I have been very blessed that the supporters who found me, did. They share stories with me all the time, whether my music helped them accept themselves or find the courage to come out, or sometimes couples have my songs as their songs. It’s really cute and one of my favorite things to hear.
