Hollyy Serenades With Retro-Inspired Single “By My Side”

LOOD Magazine once called Chicago soul band Hollyy “the future of retro-rock,” and the band has been sharing their soulful songs over the past few years with two EPs and several singles.

After spending the last few years between home during lockdown, then on the road for tours, and finally in and out of studios, they’re debuting new music in 2023, including their second single of the year today with “By My Side.”

After spending the last few years between home during lockdown, then on the road for tours, and finally in and out of studios, they’re debuting new music in 2023, including their second single of the year today with “By My Side.” Their new singles in 2023, “After Every Storm” and “By My Side,” were reworked several times during and after lockdown in 2020, though these are not “pandemic songs.” Their new music still centers on recognizing that the pain will pass, channeling not only their chops in playing the blues, R&B, and jazz, but also the spirit behind these musical traditions.

When sharing their single last month, Atwood Magazine wrote, “Chicago’s Hollyy have established themselves as a beacon of modern soul in the midwest,” continuing, “Hollyy have once again outdone themselves, returning just in time for summer with a song that can be the soundtrack to our relaxation, our reinvigoration, and our rejuvenation.”

Since venues reopened in 2021, they’ve played right before Gwen Stefani, opened for Jacob Banks for an official Lollapalooza aftershow, toured twice, and had one of their tracks featured on the premiere episode of Hulu’s How I Met Your Father.

While serenading the streets of Austin last year as official SXSW artists, they bumped into Rolling Stone. They ended up busking with Rolling Stone while on tour late this past year, pleasantly surprising commuters in NYC.
