Gayle Releases Debut EP “a study of the human experience volume one”

GAYLE By Acacia Evans

Nashville-based singer-songwriter, Taylor Gayle Rutherford, also known by her stage name Gayle, has released her debut EP. Known for her hit song “Abcdefu” Gayle continues to top charts every day. Her EP, “a study of the human experience volume one,” is about her experiences as a teen.

About Gayle

Gayle who is originally from Texas, moved with her family to Nashville as a tween to pursue her music career. She would often sit at bars with her mom watching performances, hoping she would get the chance to perform herself. After wanting to perform in bars she realized people were not always paying attention. Nashville taught her to stand out in her songwriting and be honest in her lyrics. From there, she wrote relatable songs about sex, love, and friends, that can be found on “a study of the human experience volume one.”

Behind the Making of “a study of the human experience volume one”

In an interview with Rolling Stone Gayle said the songs on her EP capture how “life is f—king weird.” Along with that, how “life is so hard, but it’s so lovely at the same time. And that’s really confusing. Especially when you’re growing up,” says the teen pop-star. In a post on Instagram, she says, “growing up is about making mistakes and learning from them.” Although people became most familiar with her after her release of “Abcdefu”, she was making music before then.

The tracks “Luv Starved,” “Sleeping With My Friends,” and “Ur Just Horny” are songs about a friendship that turned sexual. After the friendship went sour she blamed herself. “I thought I was the one at fault. Like, ‘f—k, I really f—ked up our friendship’” she says. She went on to say that she soon realized they never truly cared about her and that she was not the entire problem. As Gayle continues to find herself and who she is she does so with courage.
