Del Water Gap & His Road to Success

When it comes to Del Water Gap, there is an electrically warm sound that encapsulates the aura of his music. Based in Brooklyn, New York, Del Water Gap consists of singer and songwriter Samuel Holden Jaffe. He is an American musician who took on the moniker as a solo project.

Having studied music and sound production at the Clive Davis Institute at NYU, Jaffe successfully released two EPs with Atlantic records where he was joined by current musicians such as Maggie Rogers, Holly Humberstone, and popular producer Kid Harpoon. However, while Jaffe’s musical career launched in 2012, it was in 2020 that his song “Ode to a Conversation Stuck in Your Throat” garnered widespread public attention. Actresses Margaret Qualley and Kaitlyn Dever posted an Instagram video of them dancing to the song amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. Since then high praise has poured in with Gracie Abrams covering the track; even Florence Pugh mentioned in a recent Vogue interview that it was her “favorite song.”

Jaffe’s music is described as an indie pop record with the occasional intensifying ballad and crescendoing lyricism within post-pandemic music. Many of the songs featured in Del Water Gap’s most streamed on Spotify hold the artists’ name high. Songs such as “New Song” featuring Maggie Rogers completely infatuate it’s audience with ascending guitar lines and emphasized lyrical repetition. Even Jaffe’s “Better Than I Know Myself” carries that beachy indie tune that makes it widely captivating and easy to dance to .

With recent interviews, television debuts, festival performances, and celebrity interactions pitching more of the spotlight onto Jaffe, Del Water Gap has inevitably begun the road to musical acclaim. The artist is currently featured as the opening act on Maggie Rogers’ “The Feral Joy Tour,” and is expected to perform at a couple iconic places including The Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles.
