MUNA Releases Dancing On The Wall
Dancing On The Wall is MUNA’s latest release, dropping May 8th, the band’s 4th release following the critical acclaim that dubbed them a Pop act to watch due to their third self-titled release back in 2022.
Dancing On The Wall maintains that wishful indie-pop sound with a little bit of infused techno production that makes it feel like an 80s pop hit, a collaboration among the bandmates Naomi McPherson, Josette Maskin, and Kate Gavin. Gavin, in particular, leads with vocals, while Maskin and McPherson lead on with the album’s sound.
The album feels like it’s chronicling a messy night out and takes you on a journey to capture that roller coaster. Songs like East Side Girls, Wannabeher, and the title track demonstrate their high-energy, club-worthy nature.
On Call gets back into their pining self-conscious songwriting, about waiting for an invite and making oneself available with a hint of desperate optimism that made their last album a hit. So What continues that stride as it tries to put on a brave face, as the listeners’ expectations dwindle and they spin out, starting on Big Stick.
The closing track, Buzz Killer, ends with the singer (Gavin) very apologetic for rummaging through their feelings of hopelessness at the current state of the world and ends in a hypnotic whirl.
Following the release of the album, MUNA also started their North American and European tours, starting on May 8th, which have already sold out all of their New York and LA dates, even with additional dates added due to demand.
