Daft Punk Enters Official Collaboration With The LEGO Universe
It’s official, Daft Punk™ will be entering the Lego® universe. Rumors of a collaboration were confirmed following the release of a 30 second trailer teasing to fans the upcoming partnership. The collaboration aims to connect multiple generations of fans of both Daft Punk and LEGO through music and creativity.
The Release Film
On October 21st, fans that listened in on a Youtube livestream of ‘Daft Punk – WDPK 83.7’ heard a final, 30 second transmission. In it, a red brick flashed on screen with no further explanation. It was there that fans began speculating that a Daft Punk and Lego collaboration was in the foreseeable future. Two days later, LEGO released a short film featuring the two Daft Punk robots. The duo follows a holographic red brick through a mysterious landscape which soon envelopes them whole. A new world forms until the pair faces with a lego brick built console fit for a concert.
Together, Daft Punk and the LEGO group combed through Daft Punk archives to find the perfect soundtrack for the film and excite fans for what’s to come. They settled on using the iconic “Voyager”, from Daft Punk’s 2001 Discovery album, and “Human After All,” the title track from their 2005 album – symbolizing how the Daft Punk duo has officially become LEGO builders after all.
Daft Punk’s LEGO Origins
This long awaited partnership was first ideated from the LEGO Ideas Community. The LEGO Ideas Community is a crowdsourcing platform where Lego fans can submit their own custom LEGO sets. With enough support, a submission may turn into commercial LEGO products. In 2020, a Luxembourgish father-and-son duo submitted a Daft Punk passion project. The custom set garnered the support of thousands who also loved Daft Punk and LEGO fans.
Father, Patrick Harboun, and his son started as the Grand Prize Winners of the LEGO Ideas “Music to Our Ears” challenge. Then, they gained the support of over 10,000 people on the LEGO Ideas platform through their re-creation of the Daft Punk 2007 “ALIVE” tour pyramid concert stage. It is now on its way to becoming a commercial LEGO set. Once released, It will be available worldwide and serve as the creative foundation of the partnership.
