Production

Conway recruited heavy-hitters for the instrumentals on “God Don’t Make Mistakes”. The producing credits saw frequent collaborators in The Alchemist and Daringer plus new welcomed producers like Hit-boy. The beats brought a new side of Conway that listeners have not seen before. Though, the grimy beats that Conway usually uses were apparent, his use of more chill and soulful beats felt like a breath of fresh air to Conway the Machine’s discography. The rapper flexed his lyrical muscles and proved that he can spit on any type of beat.

Conway the Machine Features

One thing you can expect from a Conway album is for him to join forces with rappers from previous eras. On “Scatter Brain’’ off his album “La Maquina” Conway created the unlikely trio of him, J.I.D and Ludacris. He also got Method Man to spit a memorable verse on “Lemon” off “From King To A GOD”. He continued this tradition with features from T.I, Lil Wayne and Beanie Seagal who all delivered phenomenal verses.

With the firepower he collaborated with, the standout feature was from singer Jill Scott. On the track “Chanel Pearls” Scott surprised listeners when she spit a verse and sang. The pairing is a collaboration listeners were not asking for, but did not know they needed.

Content

On “God Don’t Make Mistakes” we see Conway at his most vulnerable state. He has constantly rapped about the shooting the gave him bell’s palsy, but he digs even deeper on this album. On the final track “God Don’t Make Mistakes” Conway reflects on his shooting and expresses the belief that everything happens for a reason. He questions whether he would have found success without the shooting when he raps, “Sometimes I wonder, if this bell’s palsy didn’t paralyze my grill in would there still be murals of my face painted on the sides of buildings?”

The most shocking reveal of the album is Conway’s loss of a son. On “Stressed, Conway speaks about the pain he endured from losing his child and how it took him down a bad road with drugs and alcohol in order to take the pain away. On the song he also talks about him getting abused as a kid and his cousin committing suicide. Though, this was troubling for listeners to hear, it brought fans closer to the rapper and helped them understand his struggles.

With this project, Conway the Machine cements himself as one of the best rappers in the game. With him saying he might retire soon, if this was his last project it will be a perfect ending.
