Catch Buffalo Nichols Performing at SXSW

Buffalo Nichols is set to perform multiple times at SXSW in Austin, TX, this week, beginning tomorrow night for the Rolling Stone x Twitch showcase at 3TEN ACL Live. See below for the rising artist’s full festival schedule, which also includes a KGSR Live Morning Broadcast on March 18th. Following SXSW, Nichols will kick off his run of headline shows on March 30th with a hometown Austin show at the State Theatre. He’ll be touring in support of his acclaimed self-titled debut album, released in October 2021 via Fat Possum, that continues to earn glowing coverage from outlets including NPR Music (Tiny Desk (Home) Concert and All Songs Considered Best of October’), Rolling Stone (‘The Fight to Reclaim the Blues’ feature), Bandcamp DailyGuitar WorldTexas MonthlyAcoustic GuitarAustin ChronicleNo DepressionPremier Guitar (‘Hooked’ series), Uncut (UK), Mojo (UK), and many more.  Since his earliest infatuations with guitar, Nichols—raised in Milwaukee, WI, and currently based in Austin, TX—has asked himself the same question: How can I bring the blues of the past into the future? After cutting his teeth between a Baptist church and bars in Milwaukee, it was a globetrotting trip through West Africa and Europe during a creative down period that began to reveal the answer.
“Part of my intent, making myself more comfortable with this release, is putting more Black stories into the genres of folk and blues,” Nichols explains. “Listening to this record, I want more Black people to hear themselves in this music that is truly theirs.” That desire is embodied in his self-titled debut album, composed largely of demos and studio sessions recorded between Wisconsin and Texas.
