Avalon Debuts Single/Video “Harder To Reach Than God”

If last year’s resurgence of hedonistic indie sleaze indicates where the music and art pendulum swings next, consider LA Xicana singer and producer Avalon the 2025 answer to the groundbreaking and transformative club kid and art punk scene. With sleek sonic nods to her Mexican roots, Orange County upbringing and influences that range from goth, hip-hop and punk to new wave, industrial and experimental, Avalon boldly pushes into new territory with the release of  “Harder To Reach Than God”, an infectious alterna-pop debut, written by the underground star herself and co-produced by grammy nominated artisan Chris Greatti (Aurora, Yeule, Yves Tumor, Willow).

“(The song) explores freedom through chaos,” Avalon says. “I want to take something familiar and make it unfamiliar — break it down and rebuild it.”

Alongside the new track comes a seductive sunrise video (from which Avalon was loosely inspired by 70s cult NY superstar Candy Darling) directed by upcoming visual and musical talent Noah Dillon, and shot along the Pacific coast. Instantly iconic, “Harder To Reach Than God” melds the coy sexuality of Lana Del Rey with Grimes’ digital effervescence and a nod to shoegaze-y greats. Avalon’s approach to music challenges listeners to rethink what music can be, combining synthetic textures with a raw emotional core, as she softly coos, “so sweet, so young, ima corrupt you”. The video crescendoes into ecstatic release with an extended bonus remix from The Hellp as a finale

Avalon’s music is as cerebral as it is visceral and pulls from the deep well of specters both imagined, echoed, and innovatively reinvented in a distinctly Warholian manner. Like Throbbing Gristle’s industrial provocations or Slum Village’s sample-heavy transformations, Avalon’s work exists as”anti-music music”—where traditional structures are dismantled and reassembled with futuristic intent. Avalon, who has already established herself as a celebrated DJ and underground tastemaker with a cult following,  is the maverick voice of a young generation unwilling to conform and incapable of standing still. To watch her work unfold is to stare directly at the kaleidoscope of LA subcultures—a story reborn yet never rewritten.
