AFROPUNK Introduces BLACK HERSTORY

AFROPUNK is dedicated to hosting unique cultural events that highlight all aspects of the Black experience. This past weekend, AFROPUNK took over Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts with BLACK HERSTORY LIVE, a one-of-a-kind experience that honored and celebrated Black women in the performing arts.

An immersive multidisciplinary experience that includes music, visual art, poetry, dance, and much more, the two-night BLACK HERSTORY LIVE takeover welcomed musical performances from Grammy winner india.arie, as well as exciting singers like MerebaUMIDanielle Ponder, and Celisse, invigorating poetry by Mahogany L. Browne and aja monet, and expressive dance choreographed by Ebony Williams

Before each night’s event, AFROPUNK hosted the BLACK HERSTORY: Open Fair, offering local Black artists from various disciplines to show their skills in a friendly and welcoming environment. Performances at the Open Fair ranged from slam poetry, an all-woman DJ takeover featuring Vonnie Mack, Kola Champagne, and Nikki Anticss, and dance performances from LADIES OF HIP-HOP and standouts from The Julliard School’s dance program. The Open Fair also featured AFROPUNK’s signature Spinthrift Market, featuring selections from local, Black-owned businesses and a special sponsored activation from Sephora.
