Kouros Maghsoudi & Surface Mag Come Together For NYCxDesign

Multidisciplinary artist and designer Kouros Maghsoudi will unveil his third NYCxDesign capsule collection during a one-night celebration at the iconic Spring Studios rooftop this Friday, May 19. Presented in partnership with Surface Magazine, Spring Studios, and Mortlach Single Malt Scotch Whisky, the event will showcase the Bundle Collection, a line of metal-based pieces inspired by gauche New York hedonism and unapologetic self-indulgence. Maghsoudi’s creative direction with this latest collection pushes the boundaries of traditional furniture design with risqué themes.

Standout items from the Bundle Collection include the Dose Table, a pill-shaped coffee table with a hidden fuzzy interior cavity for storing your vices; the Thong Chair, a handmade, bulbous steel piece with a distinctive and gaudy thong design; the Hairy Neo-Lounge Chair, a Space Age–inspired seat covered with a furry exterior; and the Hug Ashtray, a hand-poured ceramic piece with a unique electroplated finish inspired by New York’s untethered nightlife. The Bundle Collection invites you to “bundle up” with its soft and playful textures that garnish the pieces’ metal foundation.

Maghsoudi collaborated with New York–based Erica Shamrock Textiles to hand-select upholsteries and fabrics that add a layer of luxury and sophistication to his furniture. In line with his distinct sense of style, Maghsoudi also partnered with Elisa Johnson—whose eyewear he wears daily—to curate pieces for the evening’s performers and event team to be styled in.

In addition to tastings and craft cocktails provided by Mortlach, partygoers will enjoy live musical performances by Meilgaarden, x3Butterfly, and Jonah Almost. Guests are encouraged to embrace the spirit of the collection by dressing in fabulous cocktail attire to mirror the boldness and extravagance of Kouros Maghsoudi designs.

MORE ABOUT KOUROS
Kouros Maghsoudi, a self-taught multidisciplinary artist and designer, has always been immersed in the world of design. Born in the Frank Lloyd Wright suburbs of Chicago to parents who owned a boutique women’s clothing store and Persian rug galleries, Kouros’s upbringing instilled a deep appreciation for aesthetics and craftsmanship. After
earning a degree in sustainable architecture and urban design and working with an environmental nonprofit, he launched his own furniture collection, Mehmooni, which draws inspiration from his Persian culture while infusing playful postmodern motifs that encourage indulgence. A self-taught multidisciplinary artist and designer, Kouros’s approach is steeped in an investigation of future cultures, gathering cues from fashion and metropolitanism. Kouros’s
creative design is unapologetically tinged with sex, liberation, opulence, and self-indulgence.
