‘Indian Fashion Trunk’ came with rich deep hues and fabrics made one-of-a-kind by Indian student designers at New York Fashion Week 2022.

 

On Saturday, February 12 at 6pm, the Ziegfeld Ballroom in midtown Manhattan showcased the 5th season of ‘Indian Fashion Trunk’.  Indian student designers from the Inter National Institute of Fashion Design (INIFD) and London School of Trends (LST) presented their creations that depicted Indias, “rich culture, indigenous craftsmanship, art, design, originality, and textiles from different states of India”, said Ritu Kochhar, Director of INIFD.

 

Directed by fashion expert Gintare Jankunine, Indian Fashion Trunk featured 52 garments; All of which reflected the students personal narratives. The collection by student designers reflected the ‘craftsmanship of the future’, focusing on fall-winter trends for the 2022 season. When describing the showcase, Kochhar said, “Its vibrant colors with rich deep hues and fabrics are one-of-a-kind due largely to the craftsmanship that makes India a powerhouse source for fashion.”

 

Anil Khosla, CEO, INIFD said, “We aim to provide our students with the right experience and skills to excel in their careers. The INIFD x LST association at NYFW is a testimony to the same.”

 

Chanda Malhotra, the Chief General Manager at Inter National Institute of Fashion Design was the force behind the vibrant and cultural submergence ‘Indian Fashion Trunk’ show at this year’s New York Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2022 trends. Malhotra made sure that all looks came with a splash of all the students’ designs as a cultural representation of India with ties to their personal narratives stemming from “different states of India”.

 

Ekta Sharma, Vice President of INIFD stated that certain textures, colors, & patterns that were new at NYFW this season showcased “fabrics like velvet, crepe, suede, mul, cotton, satin etc, and embellishments like sequins, embroidery, appliqué, patchwork, dyeing techniques etc” said Sharma.

 

“INIFD has the largest network of centers pan-India. More than 500 student designers from INIFD centers were a part of this show. It was a mix of solo collections and garments by a designer duo depicting our rich culture, indigenous craftsmanship, art, design, originality, textiles from different states of India” said Sharma.

 

When describing this 5th season of ‘Indian Fashion Trunk” at New York Fashion Week 2022, Ekta said three words, “variety, innovative, and enriching.”

The student designers of ‘Indian Fashion Trunk’ wanted all New York Fashion Week goers  to see the “art, culture, values, the Indian story, and aesthetics through their garments.”
