Nicole Benefield Discusses Her New Collection

Last week, during New York Fashion week designer, Nicole Benefield showcased her new collection. IMG collaborated with Black in Fashion Council and has selected Nicole Benefield as one of their top designers this season.

We sat down with Benefield to talk about her new collection.

The collection which is based on the deisgner’s own design aesthetic showcases simplicity, sensibility, and elevated casual wear in her designs. The designs are simplistic but showcase small acute details in each piece. The brand colors are brown, white, and khaki which makes the pieces easy to style and pair.

Via Steve WarrenAll the designs as Benefield described it has “a continuous conversation” which is curved detailed seem. This seem will show a color shift of a texture shift in a piece. Benefield also used chunky hardware to emphasize the casual look in her designs.

These designs are evidently based on Benefield’s own experience in fashion and wanting an elevated casual look for herself and women alike. Benefield took casual designs and elevated them by changing the silhouette.

Nicole Benefield Besides this the company is sustainable.  All orders are custom-made per order. This means helps to not have an excess of fabric. Besides this, all the fabric is 97% biodegradable. “There is no waste…there is no inventory,” Benefield explains. The company also used deadstock fabric. “Once those fabrics are done so is that style and that fabrication but it’s nimble enough to put into a new fabrication and color,” explains Benefield.

One of the standout pieces includes a cape which Benefield describes as the “catalyst of the collection”. It was the first piece designed in the collection and features that curved detail that separates the black and khaki colors. The chunky hardware is also included as the zipper to create a “cool, casual element.”

Another standout piece is a button-up top with a print designed by Benefield’s daughter. Benefield describes it as “art meets sustainability.” Another exceptional design in the brown coat. While the collection is very structured this is one of the pieces that are softer. This is paired with a cargo belt with pockets.
