TikTok Star Charli D’Amelio Losses Followers Over Family Video
Being a social media star might be glamorous, but having everyone’s eyes on you is something you might not be ready for. TikTok star, Charli D’Amelio loses followers after getting backlash from a YouTube video with her family.
The famous TikTok dancer, Charli D’Amelio was so close to reaching her milestone of reaching 10 million followers on TikTok, but she blew just because of a reaction she had in her family YouTube video. D’Amelio and her family recently started a YouTube series, “Dinner with the D’Amelio’s”. The series is about her family eating a meal with a different surprise guest, and the first guest for the series was makeup artist, James Charles.
In the video, the family shared a meal prepared by chef Aaron May. May prepared a traditional paella dinner made with chicken, shrimps, and snails. When May was describing the dish, Charli made disgusted faces behind the chef’s back. Not only was Charli disgusted by the dish, but her sister Dixie made it clear she didn’t like the food. When the chef explained snails represent “good luck and good fortune”, Dixie ate one, gagged, and ran out the house to throw up. Dixie’s actions were dramatic, and she made a huge scene in front of the chef.

People commented and went to social media to say the D’Amelio sister’s behavior was outrageous because they were being impolite and blinded to their privilege. Having someone come to your house to cook a meal and you are being dramatic about the food is not the best way to show someone you don’t like their food. The sisters went to social media to make things clear. Charli addressed the backlash on Instagram Live saying, “You can hate on me for whatever I’ve done, but the fact that all of this is happening because of a misunderstanding, like, I just feel like that’s not okay”. Dixie went to TikTok, “I would never in any way wanna be taken as disrespectful, especially from an out-of-context 15-second clip, the truth of something that was ridiculously blown out of proportion”.
However, that wasn’t the only problem in the video. Later in the video, Charli complained she wouldn’t hit 100 million followers on TikTok in the timeline she wanted. She stated, “Ugh, I wish I had more time because imagine if I hit 100 mil a year after hitting a mil”. Not everybody gets what they want, but for her being in the spotlight she shouldn’t complain if she made it this far. This video escalated to a different level which led her to lose followers. Hopefully the next time she does a family dinner video, she and her sister keep their reactions to themselves.
