NYFW: Katie Gallagher Fall/Winter 2017

With the temperature hovering in the mid-20s and several inches of snow covering the ground, the first day of Women’s New York Fashion week was off to an icy start.  But at 6:00 that Thursday evening, fashionistas braved the winter storm and hiked down to the L.E.S.  Huddled in comradery, we were all there to experience Katie Gallagher’s hauntingly elegant Fall/Winter 2017 collection.

Entitled “Hallow,” the collection duly followed one color scheme: black and orange.  From orange bomber jackets to sheer dresses paired with a thin, black bind around the chest, the models donned a variety of silhouettes.  With every outfit, the models wore thin, strappy black heels — a chic contrast to the well-worn wooden floors of the studio.

Styled in similar fashion, the models’ makeup was another highlight of the show.  Hair was parted down the middle and slicked back into a bun, save for a few wispy strands that framed the face.  Dewy skin and natural lips were paired with a bold eye — a glossy, bright orange eyeshadow with thick, inky lashes that gave the eyes a doe-like look.

After each walking down the center of the studio in the opening amidst the packed audience, the models returned to the cleared square and made two straight lines down either side of it.  Signaling the end of the runway walk, the invisible barriers were gone, and the audience moved in for a closer look at the collection.  All in all, Katie Gallagher’s Fall/Winter 2017 collection was nothing short of fabulous.  Bold, yet tasteful, daring, yet elegant, and classic, yet inspiring — and well-worth the trek through the snow to see.
