Kicking off the Holiday Season With Vanity Fair and Lands’ End
What better way to kick off the holiday season than with shopping, sipping, and baked macaroni cubes to die for? This past Thursday, 580 Broadway was the place to be. Held in their recent SoHo pop-up shop (that is just shy of 3 months old!), Lands’ End partnered with Vanity Fair to host this holiday soirée. With two big wreaths on either wall and laced with garland throughout, the store was the perfect venue to put its patrons in a festive mood. Plus, the men clad in Lands’ End plaid expertly whipping up cocktails didn’t hurt.
Created by Gary Comer, a sailor who valued prized quality and hard work, Lands’ End reflects its founder’s values. I run my hand along a display of sweaters, noticing both their softness and sturdiness. Especially during a New York winter, durable clothing is a must and, as confirmed over a macaroni cube by someone donning the gear, it will keep you warm.
About halfway through the event, the D.J. pauses her mix and Michael Carl, Vanity Fair’s fashion director, steps to the front. After a quick word thanking us for coming, he, wearing cream-colored plaid, gracefully melds his way back into the party. For the event, he created a gift guide with his favorite Lands’ End items. Among them, the sweater that I had earlier noticed.
As all good things must, the party eventually came to an end. People slowly trickled out of the store — but not before receiving parting gifts from Lands’ End. My CashTouch Plaid Scarf came with tags still attached but, knowing that I’d be wearing this all winter, I took them took them off before I even stepped foot out of the store.
