Caponi x Apponyi: A Vibrant Summer Escape

Caponi x Apponyi: A Vibrant Summer Escape

April 15, 2025 — Florence’s revered fashion house Loretta Caponi has unveiled its first-ever artistic collaboration, fusing the maison’s exquisite heritage with the whimsical brushstrokes of Los Angeles-based artist Lara Apponyi. The result: a luminous High Summer 2025 ready-to-wear collection that captures the soul of summer in every stitch.

For the first time in its history, the Italian label—celebrated for its masterful embroidery and romantic silhouettes—invited an artist into the design process, allowing Apponyi to reimagine its beloved classics through her painterly lens. The collaboration breathes new life into signature silhouettes like the Delfina, Fiocchini, Milvia, and Bianca Re.Ed., now adorned with Lara’s expressive, transportive prints. Two new styles, the breezy Cascais short dress and elegant Patmos long dress, round out the collection in crisp cotton poplin.

The prints, developed in Apponyi’s studio, draw inspiration from Los Angeles’s lush, sun-drenched surroundings. Foliage captures twilight dancing through tropical leaves, while Fruity puts a playful twist on Mexican oilcloth motifs. Translated onto fabric by Caponi’s artisans, these artworks become wearable joy, turning everyday elegance into something slightly surreal, deeply vibrant, and wholly unexpected.

“This collection was born out of a desire to bottle the wonder of summer,” said Creative Director Lucia Caponi. “It’s about color, spontaneity, and the way art can transport us. Working with Lara expanded my creative world—her visions became threads woven into our legacy.”

That legacy is rich. Founded by the legendary Loretta Caponi, who began embroidering at just nine years old, the house has long been a symbol of Italian excellence. Royals, rockstars, and tastemakers have all sought her heirloom-quality pieces. Today, Lucia and her son, COO Guido Conti Caponi, continue to guide the label with reverence and vision, pushing it into bold new territory without compromising its roots.

The High Summer ’25 campaign is equally dreamlike, with scenes inspired by Guido’s recent travels through Costa Rica’s Osa Peninsula, Indonesia’s Komodo Archipelago, and the rugged beauty of California’s Big Sur and Carmel Beach. These far-flung landscapes, brimming with color and magic, pulse through the collection’s hues—coral pinks, turquoise blues, watermelon reds, and citrusy golds—echoing summer’s sensual palette.

“What excites me most,” Apponyi shared, “is how Loretta Caponi’s incredible craftsmanship transforms these prints into garments that feel alive. It’s wearable art rooted in emotion and memory.”

From delicate smocking and heirloom lace to bold brushstrokes and modern silhouettes, this collection celebrates contrast—old-world artistry infused with a fresh, California-kissed spirit.
